The most awesome apps that you need to get – right now!
After being lost in the App store a few times, and testing out which apps work best for me, I have figured out the most 7 awesome apps that come along with me everyday.
I can’t deny that smartphones and apps have helped me become more organised, productive and efficient in my personal and work life. However choosing which ones to install when there are about 1,252,777 apps available in the App Store, and about 60 thousand apps added per month (adjust report, 2014) can be daunting. So to save you a lot of time and hassle I give you the top 7 apps that have the potential to make your life easier.
I am not a morning person at all. I have to set myself 5 alarms to raise me from my slumber and the snooze button is my best friend. With Sleep Cycle, waking up has become so much easier for me. The app tracks your sleeping patterns by monitoring your movement during sleep. It then works out when you’re in your lightest sleep phase so that your alarm can go off and wake you up more gently. It also has the ability to learn the more you use it, so it literally gets to know you. No more hiding under the duvet!
To add to my new morning routine I have decided to introduce some exercise. Nike Training Club offers more than 100 free workouts, which works perfectly for me as I like to have lots of variation.. You can choose a different workout time, from a minimum of 15 minutes to a whole hour. You can pick a wide variety of programs to focus on certain areas, for example, toning your abs, or strengthening your arms. The app allows you to sync your playlist, record your progress, and share your results on your social media accounts. This morning I had a 15-minute workout video with Ellie Goulding. She was like my personal trainer. Who are you going to train with tomorrow?
If you’re a digital marketer or a social media strategist, this all-in-1 app might be nothing new for you. With Hootsuite, I just simply sync and browse Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LindkedIn accounts to view them all in one place. During the day, it is so much more convenient and time-saving to schedule and follow up with my accounts, especially when I am commuting, or waiting for a GP appointment. During my lunch break, I feast my eyes on inspiring shots from my Instagram feed, and receive updates from my friends and networks from other accounts in just one go. The app is free with 3 social network accounts. You can upgrade it to connect more.
We always come across a few interesting articles during the day that we do not have time to read right away. With Pocket, you can easily save all the interesting content you come across with just a click on the browser add-on or in other mobile apps. All links, articles, videos, photos, recipes will be synced and categorized into your smart-phone Pocket app – ready for you to view on the way home or before bedtime. The app even works offline, which is my favorite part, especially when stuck underground.
My colleague introduced Wunderlist to me recently, and I just fell in love with this app. I now make lists for everything – list of what to do today, movies to watch, places to travel. What’s even better is I can share them with my friends and colleagues. I can even schedule what to do today and the app will automatically put it down under the ‘Today’ list. Wunderlist is a must have if you’re obsessed with listing and scheduling and getting things done on time like me.
I first installed this app as a newcomer to London a year ago. I wanted to find out what’s cool and trendy. This app never runs out of things to keep me updated and entertained. From Soho to Camden or down to Shoreditch (all of my favorite areas to hang around), all the content is freshly curated in real time. It varies from photos to videos with personal comments from the editor. So it’s always easy to find out if the event suits with your taste or worth checking out. Got a night or a weekend without any plans? Get planning with Hype.
If Hype serves me as a personalised entertainment curator, Flipboard is my personal magazine. I love reading Vogue for creative fashion photoshoots, BBC for international news updates, bon appetit for recipe ideas, Mashable for my work-related updates, and lots lots more. But it doesn’t mean I have time everyday to browse all these magazines. Flipboard helps me read articles on the topics I am interested in, and the magazines that I want to follow. On top of that, I get the ‘10 for Today’ newsletter directly to my email inbox, so I don’t miss anything.
My phone is always low in storage but these are the top 7 apps that I can’t do without. They do not only help me use my time more efficiently and productively, but also make me more inspired. What are yours? Let me know, tweet me @uyennk!
