Custom Audience Crackdown

If you’re using custom audiences for your ad targeting on Facebook, you will soon have to prove that you’ve got user consent using a new tool the platform is currently working. This will be to check that advertisers have the user’s consent to be on emailing lists imported into Facebook.

Technically you have always needed permission to use this data, but Facebook, even though they’re saying that this isn’t a direct response to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, are actioning this now to make sure that this is brought to the forefront of advertiser’s attention. Keep an eye out for this tool, and of course, make sure you have user’s consent before using their data!

Bulk App Removal Option

There’s lots of talk at the moment about being sure that you’re happy sharing your Facebook data with various apps. Something which did become apparent as many started revoking access to third party apps, was just how difficult this process was. It’s likely that you’ve got quite a few apps connected to your Facebook account, purely out of convenience, and thanks to the uproar by disgruntled users, Facebook are rolling out a new tool which lets you remove multiple apps in bulk. Handy right? The platform hasn’t yet confirmed just when this will be available to everyone, but it is on the way!

Unsend Message Option

Said something you regret? Turns out Mark Zuckerberg has too. Last week Facebook was caught out when it became apparent that Zuckerberg, as well as other Facebook executives, had deleted previously sent messages, something that regular folk like me and you can’t do. Now this is public knowledge, Facebook have announced that this feature will soon be available to all users. This will be handy if you’ve ever sent a message you later regret, but it’s so far unclear if they’ll be any time limits or restrictions on what you’ll be able to delete.

There’s also the question of, if it hadn’t become known that Facebook high ups were doing this, would we be getting this feature at all?

Writing A Post On LinkedIn? You Might Have To Add A Hashtag

There’s arguments for and against the use of hashtags on LinkedIn. Some say they’re not a good fit for the platform, other’s think they have their place. Well, it seems that LinkedIn are now running a test which are enforcing some users to use a hashtag before pressing the publish button. This helps LinkedIn categorise posts and should help users discover relevant conversations on the network, but should it be mandatory? Yes, this is just currently a test, but it will be interesting to see if this rolls out in future. Imagine having to add a hashtag to every single social update?
